Simple, Tasty Chicken Stuffing Tips and Ideas
Level up your chicken recipes by stuffing them with all sorts of delicious goodies!
You know what would make your chicken dish even better? Stuffing! Here, we give you some tips on using ingredients such as bread and rice as stuffing tips, as well as 4 lip-smacking stuffed chicken ideas. After all, nothing beats the combination of flavourful stuffing and succulent, juicy chicken!
Using bread as stuffing
Bread stuffing is a great way to make use of stale bread, or even pieces of bread that you have lying around. Dry bread gives structure to your roast chicken, but don’t worry—your stuffing softens and becomes moist when the juices from the chicken drip into it as it cooks. You can even use whole wheat bread to make it even healthier!
Rice stuffing for an Asian twist
Rice is more compact and filling compared to bread. You also need to cook your rice first (e.g. fried rice) beforehand. Glutinous rice is commonly used for this chicken stuffing because it is sticky and holds all the ingredients together, but you can also use risotto as a Western alternative.
Veggie and potato stuffing
Don’t be surprised, veggies make great stuffing! For example, the humble potato, can be used in different ways—from a mashed potato stuffing mixed with bits of ham, to potato wedges that are seasoned with herbs, or even baby potatoes with a mix of other vegetables like carrots and onions.
You can also take your stuffing to another level by making it ketogenic! Instead of using carb-rich vegetables, try using carrots, celery and onion, and season with herbs. Your vegetables end up slow-cooked, tender, and flavourful from all that chicken essence too.
Stuffing chicken with meat
Meat stuffing will require a longer cooking time compared to veggies, bread or rice stuffing because the meat inside needs to cook well, along with the chicken itself in order to minimise diseases like salmonella. To ensure that it all cooks evenly, it’s best to cover the roast chicken in aluminium foil first to let the insides slow-cook without letting the exterior brown too much. During the last few minutes or so, remove the foil so that the skin can become crunchy.
